Blank started as a collection of 10,000 Blank NFTs (as in, completely blank jpegs) that could evolve by community vote.
We held a free mint where people could submit applications to join the allowlist. The first 1,000 applicants voted in by the community were invited to mint up to five Blank NFTs for free.
After launching, the community voted on a plan for Blank NFTs evolve over time. In essence, Blank NFTs are like shares in a community art gallery that can themselves feature art from the gallery.
Anyone that holds a Blank NFT in their wallet can connect to the website and evolve their Blank to any unique combination of community-created art. You can also upload your own art.
The month you evolve shows up in the NFT metadata. If you evolve in month one you will have a “generation 1” NFT, month two is “generation 2”, etc. You can evolve your Blank NFTs as many times as you like. Each time you evolve it erases the prior evolution and generation.
There is a 10% royalty on secondary sales that goes to the community-governed treasury. Blank raised no money and held a free mint. It is community created, owned, and argued over.
Memes are the most popular digitally native art form, and yet, there hasn’t been an easy way for communities to own the memes they create. Blank is an experiment to try and change that.
